Hurricane Sandy: How Can You Help?

GSUSA has lifted the fundraising restrictions to enable girls to raise money for Girl Scouting recovery efforts.

They have established a Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund to help address the needs of councils affected by the storm. To give, go to

You will have the option to give directly to the councils, as well as the giving form for the Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund.

GSUSA has not lifted the restriction of fundraising for other organizations, such as The American Red Cross or Salvation Army.

When asked if girls can raise money for other organizations, please direct them to helping sister Girl Scouts.  GSUSA and many councils including Heart of the Hudson, Greater New York, Nassau County, Suffolk County, Northern New Jersey, Heart of New Jersey, Central & Southern New Jersey, and Jersey Shore were affected and have staff and volunteers still working to recover. Contributions may be directed to a specific council or councils through their online giving sites.

If you or your troop are contributing to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort we would like to know!  Share your pictures and stories with the council by emailing them to

Cookie Rally & Cookie Cohorts Registration is Open!

Join us for the annual Cookie Rallies & Cookie Cohorts around the council!  Have you ever wondered how the Girl Scout Cookie sale began or why was the first Girl Scout Cookie sold?  How many flavors of cookies are there and what is the number one selling cookie?  Come to the Cookie Rally and you will learn the answers to these questions and many more.  You will also learn about the importance of goal setting, product knowledge, selling skills, and meet some Cookie Celebrities.  We'll also be making cookie crafts.

While the Cookie Rally is going on, the adults will attend Cookie Cohorts.  If you are a new leader and this is your troop’s first Cookie Sale, come learn from experienced leaders and volunteers about what it takes to have a GREAT cookie sale.   Get answers to questions such as, how many cookies do we need for a cookie booth?  How do I set up a cookie booth and how many girls do I have at the cookie booth?  And if your troop has participated in several cookie booths please come and share your knowledge.  That is what Cookie Cohorts is all about.

These are FREE events open to every Girl Scout and Girl Scout Cookie Volunteer.
