Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Girl Scout Heritage Visit Travelship Grant Summer 2011

The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace is offering approximately 20 travel'ship grants of up to $100 to support the travel needs of Girl Scout troops and groups that have reserved a Girl Scout Heritage Visit this summer. Funds will be granted to Girl Scout councils for distribution to traveling troops to offset costs for travel expenses or to support one or more girls from a troop may be experiencing difficulty in raising the necessary travel funds. Special consideration will be given to troops that did not anticipate the increased fuel and transportation expenses and also for groups including members from underserved populations.

Girl Scout troops must submit an application letter outlining their needs, a travel budget showing funds raised, the family contribution toward expenses, and the amount the troop would like to request based on budgeted expenses and demonstrated short fall. The letter should include the troop leader’s name, complete mailing address, daytime telephone number, and e-mail address.

Send the letter to the Program Manager, Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, 10 East Oglethorpe Ave., Savannah, GA 31401, email to or fax to 912-233-4659.

After a Girl Scout council sends us a letter endorsing the grant application, if granted, the funds are disbursed to the council to re-grant to the Girl Scout troop. The letter of endorsement from the Girl Scout council office may be sent separately.

One month after the trip is completed, the funded troop/group must submit a trip report to the Birthplace with at least three group photographs along with photo release forms. The funded troop/group must post a trip report on their council Web site and later in the year complete a service project for their home council as well. Although not required, GSUSA does like to hear what a troop does as a service project for the council.

These grants are made possible through the Birthplace Travelship Endowment established in 2001. The fund was created to support troop travel to the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and established with major gifts from the Hodge Foundation of Savannah, an anonymous Florida Foundation and Birthplace Circle of Friends contributors. Individuals interested in supporting the Birthplace Travelship Endowment with a gift of their own are encouraged to contact the Birthplace about giving opportunities.
