"Original" Girl Scout Cookie Recipe

This recipe is from the cookbook, "Pocket Stew" published by the South Louisiana Girl Scout Council. Kathy Clark found this recipe billed as the "original" Girl Scout cookie recipe used in the 1930's. If cooking outdoors, try preparing the dough in advance.

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs, well beaten

2 Tbs. milk

1 tsp. vanilla

2 cups bread flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, milk, vanilla and flour which has been shifted with salt and baking powder; mix well. Chill about an hour. Roll very thin and cut out about the size of a baking powder can cover. Bake at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes in a conventional oven, or in a box oven with 10-11 briquets until golden. Sprinkle baked cookies with sugar.
